Lady Lions Power Past Corban for 70-58 Win

December 4, 2021 Portland, Oregon. 

Portland, Oregon- A gritty second-quarter defense and some key rebounds allowed Multnomah to close its Cascade Collegiate Conference weekend series against Corban with a 70-58 win, Saturday afternoon, at Lytle Gymnasium. 

The Corban Warriors built their largest lead as 7 points during the first quarter before the Lions came storming back to make it a race to 70 points, with the Lion's largest lead being 17 points in the last 2:30 in the fourth quarter. 

With the victory, Multnomah ups its record to 1-8 on the season and 1-2 in CCC play.

Multnomah Individuals: Alaygza Portis– 16 points, 9 rebounds; Elise Graham – 16 points, 3 assists, 3 steals; Kianna Ponce – 8 rebounds, 4 steals. 

Corban Individuals: Holly Golenor – 18 points, 15 rebounds; Gemma LaVergne – 16 points, 5 rebounds; Josie Ferry – 6 rebounds 

Game Summary 
First Quarter 
• A three-pointer by LaVergne at the 8:26 mark, allowed Corban to open a seven-point lead, 7-0, their largest of the period, and for the day. 

• The Lions were quick to respond and score the game's next six points and held Corban scoreless for nearly four minutes. 

Second Quarter 
• Great ball movement by the Lady Lions attributed to keeping them in the game while closing the half with the score 24-24.  

Third Quarter 

• Not one, but two, Sequoia Wheeler three pointers were massive moments in the third quarter for the Lions to lead them into the last quarter with a score of 44-38.  

Fourth Quarter 
• Corban came up a bit shy compared to the Lions in the number of field goals during the fourth quarter, the Warriors connected on 7-of-15 from the field and the Lions connected on 8-of-17.  

• The Lions left no detail unturned as they were clinical with free throws making 90.9% of the free throws successfully in the fourth quarter. 

Up Next 
Multnomah will have its last three home games of the 2021 calendar year next week, as the Lions host a non-conference match up versus Mount Vernon Nazarene University on December 16th followed by two Cascade Collegiate Conference games on the 17th and 18th versus The Evergreen State College and Northwest University respectively.
