PORTLAND, Ore. - Despite the strong home support, Multnomah was unable to secure the win in their final home game in program history, falling just short in their 65-55 loss against the visiting College of Idaho Yotes.
"Nothing could have prepared us for what we went through as a team this season, but I'm proud of how these girls have persevered all the way to the end," shared head coach Reid Takatuska. "We faced challenges that we never could have foreseen at the start of the year, and I hope we can end the year on a high note next weekend."
It was the Lions (5-15, 7-19) who started the game on the front foot, outscoring the Yotes 24-18 in the first half with a three-pointer from
Jersey Huerta cementing a six-point lead for the hosts heading into the halftime break. However, it was the visitors who came out hot in the second half, utilizing a 10-2 run to claim their first lead of the afternoon. The Yotes remained in control of the contest for the duration of the third quarter, with a free-throw from Lainee Houillon extending the visitor's lead to three.
Multnomah was able to pull within one of their opponents with just over five minutes remaining in the game, but were unable to complete the comeback, with the Yotes closing out the contest with a 10-3 run to secure the victory and improve to 12-8 in conference play. Â
Huerta led all of today's scorers with 25 points, along with four rebounds and a steal.
Makayla Torkornoo and
Ellie Robertson also ended the contest with double-digit scoring, tallying 13 points and 11 points respectively. Senior forward
Gracie Browning added six points, as well as game-highs of eight rebounds and five assists.
The Lions will close out the regular season next weekend with their final road trip of the year, as they take on Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University next Friday and Saturday.
