KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The upset-minded Multnomah Lions nearly pulled off the spectacular on Friday night, but came up just short, dropping a 93-88 decision on the road against the No. 22 Oregon Tech Lady Owls.
Multnomah (7-20, 5-16) overcame a 23-point deficit in the second half to take their first lead of the contest, thanks to 14 points in the fourth quarter from freshman guard
Jersey Huerta, but were ultimately unable to complete the comeback, with OIT (21-6, 17-4) scoring 12 free throws in the final minute to close out the contest.
"We showed a lot of character tonight, especially considering all the games we've played this season being short handed in comparison to our opponents," shared head coach Reid Takatsuka. "The girls didn't back down at any point tonight, and I hope we can maintain this mindset heading into our last game against SOU."
OIT's bench came up big all night, scoring 23 points to Multnomah's seven. However, it was the Lions who made the most of their opponent's mistakes, with the visitors scoring 28 points off of turnovers compared to the Lady Owls' 19. The hosts completely dominated the boards during Friday night's contest, recording 47 rebounds to Multnomah's 28, while also holding a narrow shooting edge over the Lions.
CCC leading scorer Huerta (19.7 ppg) led all scorers tonight, tallying 29 points and a game-high four steals.
Makayla Torkornoo added 19 points, three rebounds and three assists, while
Gracie Browning recorded 18 points and a team-high six rebounds. Freshman guard
Ellie Robertson rounded out the scoring for Multnomah with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
The Lions will close out their season in Ashland, Oregon today, as they take on the No. 3 Southern Oregon University Raiders at 3:00 pm.
