Box Score 2 EUGENE, Ore. – Behind a combined hitting percentage of .363 (77-20-157) and 27 services aces, the Multnomah University Lions posted 3-0 sweeps over West Coast Baptist College (25-6, 25-15, 25-13) and Mills College (25-4, 25-6, 25-8) in a pair of neutral-site volleyball matches here Saturday.

In their first match of the day at New Hope Christian College's Cordiere Gym, the Lions hit .337 (41-12-86) while holding the Eagles to a minus -.133 mark (8-16-60).
Maile Kam collected 13 kills and
Miranda Halverson 10 to lead the way offensively, while
Marissa Rhodes had 34 assists. Rhodes served five aces and
Emily Weidlich and
Sabrina DeJesus-Bair had three each as the Lions totaled 13 winners in all. Weidlich made 12 digs to lead the defensive effort.
Julie Chappell had three kills, Valerie Cole six assists, and Grace Tesdall seven digs for the Eagles.
Multnomah took control quickly in the opening set as Rhodes served the first eight winning points, including a pair of aces, and Kam had two kills. Kills by Rhodes, Kam, and
Patty Batoon, with two aces by Weidlich sandwiched in between, ended the set.
The second set was close at 11-8 when the Lions went on an 8-1 run to stretch the margin to a comfortable 19-9. The Eagles scored the first point of the third set, their only lead of the match, but the Lions then went on a 21-5 spree, Weidlich serving nine straight winning points to end the outburst, and closed out the match in a mere 1:04.
--- Multnomah 3, Mills 0 (25-4, 25-6, 25-8)
Mills, short-handed with only eight players dressed out, struggled mightily against Multnomah's onslaught in an afternoon match at Churchill High School, managing only a minus -.246 hitting mark (6-21-61). The Lions were on fire with a .394 percentage (36-8-71), and also served 14 aces. Batoon led the way with 12 kills and a .550 hitting percentage, while Rhodes handed out 27 assists. Kam had six aces and
Kayla Keane three, with Weidlich making nine digs.
Myeisha Williams had three kills, Sydney Huddleston three assists, and Vivian Kang eight digs for Mills.
Leading 7-3 in the first set, the Lions exploded for a 14-0 run behind the serving of Kam, who notched four aces in the string. In the second set, Kam had another run of 13 straight winning serves, with
Hannah Snyder and
Sydney Amundsen contributing three kills apiece in that stretch. Rhodes served nine straight winning points as the Lions opened the third set with a 10-0 run and coasted to an even faster victory than in the morning, this one completed in only 56 minutes.
With the twin wins, Multnomah ended a five-game skid and improved to 4-11 on the season.
