Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Planning a nationally-ranked NAIA team for the second day in a row, the visiting Multnomah University Lions were upended 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21) by the College of Idaho Lady 'Yotes in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action late Saturday afternoon here at the J.R. Albertson Center.
Patty Batoon had a team-high eight kills and
Sydney Amundsen added six for the Lions, who hit .063 as a team.
Kayla Keane and
Marissa Rhodes handed out 13 and 10 assists respectively. Defensively,
Sabrina DeJesus-Bair had 12 digs and
Miranda Halverson 11, while
Madysen Trout had five blocks assists.
The College of Idaho was led by Taylor Alexander with 15 kills and Miah Perez with 11, while Marija Djonovic made 33 assists. Kilee Lopez led a trio of Lady 'Yotes in digs with 14, and Kiara Skinner had seven block assists.
In the opening set, the Lions hung close to the No. 8 Lady 'Yotes and were within two at 20-18 following a kill by Trout, but the home team reeled off five points in a row to secure the set. A 7-0 run midway through the second set enable C of I to move from a 10-6 lead to a comfortable 17-6 margin on the way to a 2-0 lead in sets.
In the final set, the Lions came to life after falling behind 18-12. Behind a pair of blocks, one by
Hannah Snyder and Amundsen and another by Trout and Snyder, and kills from Halverson and Batoon, the Lions pulled into a 19-19 tie. The Lady 'Yotes regrouped at that point, however, and finished the match with a 6-2 run, ending play with a final Alexander kill.
Multnomah is now 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the CCC, while the College of Idaho is 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
