OREGON TECH 76, MULTNOMAH 39: Lions Return to Court with CCC Loss to Lady Owls

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Back in action after almost two weeks of holiday cheer, the Multnomah University Lions got off to a good start but were eventually undermined by the Oregon Institute of Technology Lady Owls 76-39 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball game Friday evening here at Danny Miles Court. 
 
Two baskets by Rachelle Tau to open the game gave the visiting Lions an early 4-0 lead, but the Owls responded with a 12-0 run, going ahead for good on a three-pointer by Megan Morris at the 6:19 mark.  Multnomah answered with six straight points on a jumper by Paris Sanders, a steal and layup by Anissa Behymer-Smith, and a basket by Valerie Wakefield to make it 12-10 OIT with 2:16 left in the first period.
 
A layup by Bailey Nelson ended the Lions' run, and the Owls stretched their advantage to 17-10 at the end of the quarter.  OIT then scored the first five points of the second period to take its first double-digit lead at 22-10 with 6:10 left in the half, and the Lions got no closer than t10 points thereafter. 
 
Tech led 37-17 at the intermission, then out-scored Multnomah 25-12 in the third quarter to put the game away.  The Owls' largest lead came with 3:55 left in the game, Baylee Toney's two free throws making the score 74-35.
 
--- By the Numbers:  Tau was the only Lion to reach double figures in points with 14, sinking 7-of-10 shots from the field while tying for game-high honors.  The Lions were limited to a .278 shooting percentage (15-54), including .159 (3-19) on threes.  Sanders also tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds, while Wakefield handed out three assists and Behymer-Smith picked up four steals.
 
Mikaela Shumaker led the Owls with 14 points, Morris added 13, and Toney scored 10.  OIT shot .477 (31-65) from the floor and held a 50-26 rebound advantage, led by Amanda Constant's eight boards.  Toney had five assists, and Hannah Neibauer made three steals.
 
Multnomah is now 0-14 on the season and 0-4 in the conference, while Oregon Tech is 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the CCC.
