Box Score EUGENE, Ore. –
Miranda Halverson and
Sydney Amundsen combined for 22 kills for Multnomah University, but it was not enough for the Lions to overcome a hot Northwest Christian University team as the host Beacons won a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball match 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-16) Saturday afternoon here at the Morse Event Center.
The Beacons used an 8-1 run to take control of the first set, stretching its lead from 10-7 to 18-8, and the Lions got no closer than six the rest of the way. The second set was much tighter, with ties at every number from 1-1 to 13-13 before NCU went up for good. The Lions were still within two at 21-19 after an Amundsen kill, but the Beacons closed with a 4-1 run to capture the set.
A .020 hitting percentage proved to be the Lions' downfall in the final set. The Beacons never trailed in the set but did not put matters to rest until a 5-0 run enabled them to move out to a 19-11 lead. The margin reached 10 at 24-14 before the match concluded.
