OREGON TECH 3, MULTNOMAH 0: Final Road Match Ends in Lions’ Loss to Owls

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Concluding the road portion of their 2017 women's volleyball schedule, the Multnomah University Lions dropped a 3-0 decision (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) to the Oregon Institute of Technology Hustlin' Owls late Saturday afternoon here at Danny Miles Court.

The first set featured 10 ties and five lead changes as neither team could maintain momentum.  Multnomah pulled into a tie for the last time at 17-17 on a block by Madysen Trout and Patty Batoon, but Tech broke the deadlock on a Lions' service error that started an 8-2 run that gave the Owls the victory.

The Lions took the first three points of the second stanza on a block by Trout and Maile Kam, a kill by Batoon, and a service ace by Marissa Rhodes.  The Owls battled back to tie at 8-8 and 9-9 before going ahead for good on a Cheyanne Laber winner and slowly extending their lead.  The game was still touch-and-go with the Lions down only 21-18 after a kill by Trout, but the Owls scored the final four points on an attack error and kills by Whitney Webster, Laber, and Bailey Nelson to secure a 2-0 lead.

Rhodes served three aces and Trout and Kam had kills as Multnomah exploded to a 5-0 lead in the third set, and stretched the margin to 9-3 on another Kam kill.  The Lions could not sustain the momentum, however, as the Owls gradually fought back and finally tied the score 15-15 on a kill by Faryn Case.  The Lions regained the lead by two on a kill by Kam and an ace by Trout, but the rest of the set belonged to the Owls, who closed with a 10-3 run to complete the match sweep.
