Volleyball Returns Home, Hosts Corban and NCU

PORTLAND, Ore. – After a weekend on the road, the Multnomah University volleyball team returns home to Jim Skagen Court for matches against No. 24 Corban and Northwest Christian on Friday and Saturday.
 
Shorthanded this past week, the Lions (5-9, 1-7 CCC) dropped two very tough matches in three sets to the College of Idaho and sixth-ranked Eastern Oregon.
 
The Lions remain one of the best defensive teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, ranking fifth in opponent's hitting percentage, holding them to .175 this year and holding the fourth best digs per set average at 15.06. MU is also one of the better serving teams, recording the fourth most aces at 82, an average of 1.67 per set.
 
Sophomore Duo: Sophomores Miranda Halverson and Marissa Rhodes has excelled for the Lions in their second year. Halverson leads the team in kills with 137, an average of 2.8 kills per set. She has also tallied a team high 133 digs in 14 matches.
 
Rhodes surpassed the 700 career assist mark as a Lion last weekend, and now has 233 assists this season. She has tallied double digit assists in eight straight matches, and in 13 total matches on the year.

About Corban:
-Currently ranked 24th in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, the Warriors are in second place in the CCC Standings at 10-4 overall, 6-2 in the CCC
-Corban is second in hitting percentage at .240, while holding their opponents to an average of .183.
-The Warriors rank second in assists with 12.16 assists per game, with Madison Mclain averaging 10.96 assists per set which ranks sixth most in the NAIA
-Corban is also second in kills as Amber Parker leads the CCC in total kills at 227.

About Northwest Christian:
-NCU sits in the middle of the pack in the CCC standings at 5-9, 3-5 CCC
-The Beacons earned wins in both meeting against the Lions last year, winning in three at home and 4-1 in Portland
-NCU has had some trouble on offense, holding the 10th hitting percentage at .125 and ranked eighth in kills with an average of 11.13 kills per set.
NCU's Laurie Salness has tallied the second most aces in the CCC with 21
