Lions Look to Keep the Streak Alive, Welcome in Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech

PORTLAND, Ore. – Riding a six set win streak, the Multnomah University women's volleyball team continues their home stand this weekend as they welcome in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opponents Southern Oregon on Friday and Oregon Tech on Saturday at Lytle Gymnasium.
 
The Lions (5-5, 1-3 CCC) earned the program's first CCC win last week, sweeping Walla Walla University 25-16, 25-16, and 25-21, making it their second straight sweep after knocking off Pacific University a few days earlier.
 
Defense and serving have been strong facets of MU's game as of late. The Lions rank second in the conference in digs per set (15.88) while holding their opponents to a hitting percentage of .138, the third lowest in the CCC. MU also ranks second in the conference in service aces, totaling 62.
 
Miranda Halverson has flourished in her second year with the Lions, recording 100 kills so far this season. Her average of 2.94 kills per set ranks 10th among all individuals in the conference. Halverson has also tallied 11 service aces and 96 digs which ranks third on the team.
 
Other Highlights:
– Freshman Jenna Horton averages 3.41 digs per set, ranks ninth in the CCC. She continues to lead the team in digs with 109.
– Freshman Maile Kam ranks second on the team in kills (90) and digs (100).
– Junior Patty Batoon has impacted both offensively and defensively, tallying 89 kills and a team high 22 total blocks
– MU currently holds a two-match win streak as they get back to .500
– This is the second time this season the Lions have recorded a streak of six-straight sets won
– Sophomore setter Marissa Rhodes tied a match high 23 assists last week, now has 151 assists in 33 sets played.

– The Raiders opened up the season ranked No. 18 in the NAIA Preseason Poll but after a 5-6 start, have fallen out of the rankings
– SOU is 2-2 in conference play, splitting last weekend in a win over Evergreen and a three set loss to Northwest
– SOU won both meetings against the Lions last season, sweeping both matches
– Emma Gasman leads the Raider offense with 101 kills and a hitting percentage of .307 while setter Lauren McGowne has tallied 378 assists in 39 sets

Oregon Tech:
– The Owls sit tied with MU in the CCC standings at 5-5 overall, and 1-3 in the CCC
– OIT has lost three of their last four matches, with their last win being a sweep of Evergreen State
– Oregon Tech ranks ninth in the conference in hitting percentage at 1.56 (MU – .183)
– The Owls are led offensively by Kelsey Sampson who averages 3.03 kills per set, while Waverly Green has tallied 257 assists and Bella Foss has 136 digs
