PORTLAND, Ore. – After finishing their opening weekend of play with a 3-1 record, the Multnomah University volleyball team will kick off Cascade Collegiate Conference action tonight as they travel to cross-town rival Warner Pacific tonight at 7 p.m.
At the Simpson Classic, the Lions came away with wins over Simpson, New Hope Christian College and West Coast Baptist.
Freshman
Maile Kam and sophomore
Miranda Halverson have led the attack for MU so far this season, recording 35 kills each to lead the team. Junior
Patty Batoon follows with 29 kills while
Hannah Antal has tallied 23 kills.
Second year setter
Marissa Rhodes has a little more help this season but is off to a fast start, recording 55 assists in 13 sets. Freshman setter
Kayla Keane has quickly contributed to her new team adding 51 assists of her own to go along with 14 kills and six blocks.
Defensive specialist
Jenna Horton is another newcomer who has shown early success for the Lions, tallying a team high 53 digs, an average of 3.79 digs per set which ranks fifth in the entire conference. Defensively, Batoon has totaled 14 blocks, which is tied for the fourth most in the CCC.
Warner Pacific swept both meetings between Multnomah last year with the first one coming down to a close 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 game.
The Warriors were selected to finish in seventh place in the CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing 11-14 overall last year.
