Volleyball Returns Home to Host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University volleyball returns to Jim Skagen Court this weekend as they prepare to host Oregon Tech on Friday and 12th-ranked Southern Oregon on Saturday.
 
The Lions are coming off a loss on the road to Warner Pacific just a few days earlier and hold a 2-13 overall record heading into this weekend's competitions.
 
This will be the second meeting for both of these teams, MU dropped both matches on the road at the start of the season.
 
By the Numbers: The Lions average 8.7 kills per set, eight assists, and just under 13 digs per set (12.9). Sophomore Patty Batoon has led the offense recording 179 kills, an average of 3.89 a set. Her average ranks 23rd in the NAIA in kills per set.
 
Freshman setter Marissa Rhodes has tallied 328 assists so far this season. Her average of 7.13 assists per set is the eighth highest average in the Cascade Conference. Freshman outsider Miranda Halverson has picked up her pace in the second half of the season, now having a total of 115 kills. She also ranks third on the team in digs, collecting 97.
 
About Oregon Tech:
-The Owls sits in the middle of the conference standings with a 6-6 record, going 11-7 overall.
-OIT ranks sixth in the CCC in hitting percentage at .176.
-Hold opponents to the fourth worst hitting percentage at .141.
-Rank second in the conference in digs at 16.24.
-Oregon Tech's Kelsey Sampson ranks 10th in kills per set with 2.91.
 
Southern Oregon:
-The Raiders are ranked 12th in the NAIA Top 25 heading in to this weekend.
-Their highest ranking of the season was No. 8, before losing to C of I and No. 7 Eastern Oregon.
-SOU hold the highest hitting percentage in the conference at .256, and hold their opponents to the lowest hitting percentage at .124.
-Southern in second in the conference kills (14.02 per set) and second in blocks with 2.21 per set.
The Raiders sit at second place in the CCC standings with a record of 10-2, 17-2 overall.
 
Friday's contest against Oregon Tech will begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday's is set for a 5 p.m. start.
