EUGENE, Ore. - After having two members of the Multnomah track & field program qualify for this year's CCC Championships in the L&C Electric Forest Opener, there was more to celebrate after last weekend's LCC Open, as the Lions were highlighted by
Willy Mabena and

"Like I keep reminding this group, we may be small but we are mighty, and we've been doing a great job building on our performances week after week," shared head coach Ben Barber. "Each and every person in this program is eager to get after it at every meet we compete in, and I know we won't have any trouble maintaining that mindset as the season progresses."
After winning the 100m and 200m the meet before, Mabena followed those performances up with another first place finish in the 100m with a time of 11.10, beating out 58 other runners. Elsewhere on the men's side was
Anthony Simon, who recorded a 16th-place finish and time of 23.69 in the 200m.
Justin Almendarez and
Fredrick Watkins wrapped things up for the men, with Almendarez finishing 10th in the 800m (2:04.20), while Watkins came in 14th in the 1500m (4:16.76).
Metzger led the way for the women, following up her PR in the 1500m the meet before with a first place finish in the 3000 Steeplechase (11:32.01). She was followed closely by
Analynne Klotz, who finished in third with a time of 11:56.16.
The Lions are back in Eugene this weekend, as they're competing against the best of the best at this year's Oregon Preview, hosted by the University of Oregon. For Barber and the rest of the Multnomah track & field program, it's a great chance to show what they're made of against some of the top schools in the region. "These are the meets you dream of competing in, and all I want for our program is to enjoy themselves this weekend!"
