SOUTHERN OREGON 1, MULTNOMAH 0: Raiders Nip Lions in Stellar Defensive Struggle

Box Score ASHLAND, Ore. – With both teams turning in stellar defensive efforts, it took only one goal early in the second half to give the Southern Oregon University Raiders a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Multnomah University Lions in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer Friday afternoon here at the SOU soccer field.

The Raiders took 20 shots in the game, seven of them on goal, but Lions' keeper Manuel Guillermo-Olivares was up to the task, turning away six shots.  The only one that eluded him came in the 50th minute when SOU's Travis Hopkins made a run down the right sideline, angled in, and connected from six yards out as Guillermo-Olivares slid out to challenge him.

Southern Oregon's defense was particularly stingy, limiting Multnomah to only one shot, an on-target attempt by Noe Favila in the 41st minute in the first half.  Raiders' goalie Wyatt Zabinski made the stop to preserve the shutout and earn the win.

Multnomah is now 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the CCC, while Southern Oregon is 3-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
