Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Another good defensive effort by Multnomah University went for naught due to a lack of offensive punch as the Lions were blanked by the host Northwest Christian University Beacons 2-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer match Saturday night here at Mike Kelley Field.
Although the Beacons held an overall 17-5 advantage in total shots, the Lions' defense made most of those attempts feeble as only five shots were on goal. However, two of them got through, one in each half, and that was enough to give the hosts the victory.
The first goal came in the 31
st minute when Victor Irechukwu sent a shot toward the goal that was saved by a Lions' defender, but the rebound went straight to Blake Doran, who stuck it back in for what proved to be the game-winner. With the game still very much in doubt, Zeph Hollins, who led the Beacons with four shots, gave his team some breathing room with a 25-yard loft to the upper left corner for the final margin.
Manuel Guillermo-Olivares made two saves in the net for the Lions, while Yayo Olvera earned the shutout with one save for the Beacons on the Lions' only on-goal shot of the game by
Nicolas Mboungou in the 13
th minute.
The Lions are now 2-14 overall and 0-12 in the CCC, while the Beacons evened their record at 6-6-2 and moved to 6-3-2 in the conference.
