Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – Scoring five times in the second period to break open a game that was still close at halftime, the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears overpowered the visiting Multnomah University Lions 7-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer match Sunday afternoon here at Wendy's Field.
The Bears, ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on a header by Jonah Gronmayer off a cross from Sky Swenson. Sam Davidson's through ball to Marco Kummerle was knocked home in the 16
th minute to make it 2-0, a score that stood until the break.
Kummerle added a second goal in the 52
nd minute, opening the second-half floodgates. Luca Wiechers, Davidson, Chasen LaShure and Swenson scored successive goals as the Bears pulled away for their fourth straight win.
Rocky Mountain held a decided advantage in shots 31-1, with 17 shots on goal to one for Multnomah.
Noe Favila got off the Lions' only shot in the 12
th minute, and it was stopped by Bears keeper Cole Catlin, who earned the shutout.
Manuel Guillermo-Olivares had seven saves for Multnomah before
JohnMark Townsend made his first appearance of the season in the net and recorded three saves in the game's final 20 minutes.
Multnomah is now 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the CCC, while Rocky Mountain climbed to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
