PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men's soccer team will open up Cascade Conference play for the first time in school history this weekend as they travel to Klamath Falls, Ore., on Friday to take on Oregon Tech before playing Southern Oregon on Saturday.
The season is very young for the Lions as they head into this weekend with an overall record of 0-3. Injuries have plagued MU this season, forcing them to play under a full squad multiple times in the early games.
The second year program enters its first season in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and continues to endure growing pains as they search for their first collegiate victory.
By The Numbers: The Lions are second in the Cascade Conference in saves with 36 total. Junior goal keeper
Danny Mangione ranks eighth in the conference in saves with 14 in two games.
Freshman
Austin McKee has led the attack for MU, tallying a team high seven shots. Junior
Juan Candido scored the first goal of the season for the Lions against Trinity Lutheran in their previous contest.
About Oregon Tech:-OIT has struggled opening up conference play dropping their first two games to go 0-2 in CCC, 2-4 overall.
-The Owls rank second in the CCC in shots taken with 91, an average of 14.83 shots a game.
-Oregon Tech has given up the 12th most goals on the season (14).
-The Owls have managed the third most saves at 30, an average of five a game.
-OIT was picked to finish at the 12th spot in the CCC preseason poll by the head coaches.
-Last season the Owls finished 2-16 on the season, 1-13 in conference play.
About Southern Oregon:-This marks the first season SOU has had a men's soccer program.
-The young team started off 5-0 but have dropped their last two CCC matches to enter the weekend 5-2 overall.
-SOU has had a strong attack, ranking the highest in shots taken with 91.
-The Raiders have notched the second most goals with 18 total.
-Southern ranks in the middle of the pack in goals allowed with 9 so far this season.
