NAIA Nationals Complete with an All-American and a Historic Season

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Multnomah University Women's Cross Country team put a stamp on their historic season after competing at the NAIA's 42nd Annual Women's Cross Country National Championships on Friday, November 19th.

The team finished 34th and was one of four teams that had never participated as a team at Nationals. Shiloh Mounce had an incredible race, finishing 25th overall to become the first female All-American in Multnomah history. The award also made her the second athlete at MU with the All-American title.

It was an incredible effort across the board from the Multnomah community to host the National Championship along with the Cascade Collegiate Conference at Fort Vancouver. The event was extraordinary and the PNW rain stopped a couple hours before the first race.

Head Coach Corey Mehl remarked, "To see everyone chip in throughout this past week with setting up the course and getting all the logistics taken care of, I was truly blown away. A massive thank you goes to my assistant coach, Ben Barber. The guy did whatever it took to make this race happen alongside putting up with my hardnosed attitude in making it the perfect course – guy deserves a medal. I was pretty nervous all week and definitely when I showed up to Fort Vancouver on Friday morning, but I was brought immediate relief when I saw that the Multnomah community had showed up. To see so many students, athletes, staff, faculty and administration brought a deep sense of joy and belonging to my heart."

Mehl was nothing short of proud of his team. "What more can you say about what Shiloh Mounce has accomplished in her career at MU? Well, now you can add All-American to that bio line. She can now truly say she is one of the best and we feel she is just starting her journey. Up next, indoor and outdoor track!"

"I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my other four warriors. Makenna Stock has battled some injuries this past month but continues to show how mentally tough she really is each and every day. She's basically been training on the elliptical for weeks but it hasn't deterred her one bit. Anais Mills has been right alongside her gutting out every performance. The team rallies around Anais' joyous personality and it really does help propel us forward. As someone who didn't originally come to MU to compete, it's been one of my favorite coaching stories watching her excel on the National stage."

"My freshman DeAsia Wosachlo is beginning to come into her own. She had another huge PR at 22:03. Coming here a little on the shy side, her confidence has really begun to blossom as she is starting to believe in what she is capable of down the road. I am so excited to see where that takes us. Lastly, my senior track captain, Kiara Anctil. A sprinter by trade, I asked her to fulfill our squad and she has taken it head on. She's battled an extremely tough back injury but has lined up each and every time and done what we've needed her to. None of this would have been possible without her."

"It was a season to remember and one I believe will help our program continue to take the steps forward we want to take. Up next for our program is the Indoor Track season. We are opening up Saturday, December 11th in Spokane, Washington at a brand new facility called the Podium at the Spokane Invitational."
