Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – For the first 10 minutes, Multnomah University stayed right with the College of Idaho, and even had the lead – but then the 8
th-ranked Coyotes turned on the afterburners and sped away from the visiting Lions to a 95-50 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball win Saturday night here at the J.A. Albertson Center.
Jon Viles hit a three-pointer to open the scoring and give Multnomah an early lead. Over the next 10 minutes, the teams battled back and forth, forging two ties and swapping leads three times. A three by
Ry Paulsen gave the Lions a 17-16 lead with 9:59 left in the half – and then the 'Yotes caught fire. A trey by Roosevelt Adams gave the home team the lead for good, and a three by Gibson Berryhill gave the 'Yotes their first 10-point lead of 34-24 at the 5:08 mark. A Talon Pinckney layup with 25 seconds left capped a 29-9 outburst over the final 10 minutes of the half and put C of I up 45-26 at the break.
The second half only saw the 'Yotes pour it on as the Lions struggled from the field, shooting only .290 (9-31) in the final period, and were out-scored 50-24. The lead extended to as much as 48 points when Jake Bruner hit a jumper to make it 95-47 with 1:30 left, and
Max Upchurch's three for the Lions with 53 seconds left ended the scoring.
--- By the Numbers: Brett Blackstock led the Lions in both points and rebounds for the fifth straight game, tossing in 15 points while collecting seven boards.
Ben Grandle added 11 points as the Lions finished with a .337 shooting mark (20-59), including 9-of-32 on threes. Blackstock was 1-for-1 from the free throw line – the only time the Lions visited the stripe as the 'Yotes were whistled for only eight fouls.
Trey Fountain handed out five assists.
Adams and Aziz Leeks had 18 points each for the 'Yotes, Leeks sinking 9-of-11 from the floor as they shot .500 (35-70) for the game and .429 (15-35) from beyond the arc. Keun Palu-Thompson scored 13 points, and Pinckney and Berryhill had 11 each. Pinckney made it a double-double with 11 rebounds and also had six assists. C of I dominated the glass 48-29.
Multnomah fell to 4-14 on the season and 1-8 in the conference, while the College of Idaho improved to 14-5 overall and 8-1 in the CCC with its fourth straight win.
