PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men's basketball team will close out their final week on the road this week finishing off the Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule at Northwest of Friday and The Evergreen State College on Saturday.
Multnomah ended their losing streak last night against Portland Bible, earning a 112-80 victory on the road.
Blake Updike finished with 30 points while
Thomas Simien added 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Last week: The Lions broke an NAIA national record against Corban University, attempting 73 three-pointers in a single game. The previous record was set in 1989 with 70 threes in a single game.
By the Numbers: Updike will try to hold his top scoring average in the CCC through the remainder of the season. His 22.4 points per game is only .6 points ahead of the second best average in the conference.
Updike also leads in total 3-pointers made with 89, while freshman shooter
Ben Grandle is second in the CCC in the same category with 84 threes made.
Simien has had a great start at MU, tallying 12.4 points a game and 7.3 rebounds a game. His performance against Portland Bible earned him his fifth double-double of the season.
Previous Matchups:Northwest: The Eagles earned a victory during the first week of conference play against the Lions, winning 90-73. Ben Tucakovic led five NU players in double-figures with 24 points and added 10 rebounds. Updike was the leading scorer for the Lions with 30 points.
Evergreen: Danny Powell led the way for Evergreen in their first game against the Lions, totaling 36 points in a 97-84 win. Alix Hernandez and Brock Otis each tallied 21 points while Updike hit 30 points for what would be the first of consecutive nights.
About Northwest:-Northwest currently sits in the final playoff spot in the conference standings with an 11-17 overall record, going 7-11 in conference play.
-The Eagles can clinch a spot in the conference postseason tournament with one win in the final two CCC games.
-NU ranks eighth in the CCC in scoring with 79.5 points per game, while being tied for the fifth best defense, giving up 78.3 points.
-Northwest is led by Michael Dupree who averages 18.6 points per game.
About Evergreen:-Evergreen still has hope for a postseason berth with a record of 5-13 in conference, 8-18 overall.
-With two wins and two losses by Northwest, Evergreen can clinch the final playoff spot.
-Evergreen's Danny Powell is second in the CCC in scoring with 21.8 points per game. Following him is Brock Otis at 14.7 points.
-The Geoducks ranks fifth in offense, scoring 82.6 points per game.
