Men's Basketball Travels South to Play Corban and Northwest Christian

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men's basketball team currently ride a five game losing streak that they hope to end this weekend as they travel to face Corban University of Friday and Northwest Christian on Saturday.
 
Last Week: The Lions were unable to secure a win in two games over the weekend against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon. MU played a close game against Eastern, bringing EOU's lead to single digits late in the second half but were unable to find enough scoring in the end to overcome the deficit.
 
Senior guard Blake Updike hit a game high 31 points against the Mountaineers, going 17-of-19 from the free throw line.
 
By the Numbers: Updike moved back into sole possession of the Cascade Collegiate Conference scoring lead, averaging 22.5 points per game. He also leads the CCC is 3-point field goals made with 56 so far this year.
 
Fellow senior Jordan Paris is second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game to go along with 9.9 rebounds a game. His rebounding average ranks third in the conference and his average of 4.6 assists per game is the sixth highest in the CCC.
 
As a team, the Lions average 79.6 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field, including a shooting percentage of 35 percent from behind the arc. MU ranks third in the CCC in rebounds with nearly 41 rebounds a game and are second in 3-point field goals made with 193, an average of 12.1 per game.
 
NAIA Rankings: In NAIA Division II, Updike ranks ninth in 3-point field goals made per game (3.5), ninth in total 3-point field goals made (56), 15th in points per game (22.5) and 22nd in total points scored with 360.
 
Paris hold the third highest ranking in NAIA DII in defense rebounds per game (8.3), ranks 15th in total rebounds (161) and is 34th in assister per game (4.6).
 
For team rankings in DII, the Lions rank third in 3-point field goals per game (12.1), eighth in total 3-pointers made (193) and 27th in total rebounds per game at 41 rebounds.
 
About Corban:
-Corban sits in the middle of the conference standings with a CCC record of 4-4, going 10-6 on the year.
-The Warriors rank seventh in the CCC in scoring with 81 points a game and also rank seventh in defense, allowing 78.9 points a game.
-Corban has won three of their last four home games and are 5-3 overall while at home.
-Corban has made at least one 3-pointer in over 950 straight games.
-The Warriors rank third in the CCC in field goal percentage at .503.
-AJ Monterossi leads the Warriors in points scored, averaging 20 points a game which ranks fifth in the CCC, while Cyrus Ward ranks fourth in rebounds (7.9) and ninth in points at 17.5.
 
About Northwest Christian:
-Northwest Christian sits at a tie for first place in the CCC standings with an overall record of 14-4, going 7-1 in the CCC.
-The Beacons rank 17th in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll which is the highest regular season ranking in school history.
-NCU currently sits on a seven game winning streak and are a percent 6-0 at home this season.
-The Beacons hold the third best scoring offense in the CCC at 84.9 points per game and have the second best defense, allowing only 69.1 points per game.
-NCU has the fourth best field goal percentage in the conference at 48 percent.
-The Beacons are led by Javonte Byrd with 14.3 points per game while Jay Mayernik ranks fifth in rebounds at 7.6 rebounds a game.
