Gary Akiyama

Gary Akiyama serves as the Chairman of Multnomah's Athletics Guidance Team and is also in his sixth year as the assistant Women's Basketball coach. Coach Akiyama was an assistant Men's Basketball coach in 1985 under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach, Jim Skagen.

Gary is the owner of Akiyama Financial Services, LLC and is also a co-owner of a semi-professional basketball team in Vancouver, WA called the Vancouver Volcanoes (IBL). His résumé also includes working for the Portland Trailblazers for 6 years, being on the board of directors at Portland Christian Schools (PCS) for 13 years and serving as the Director of Development at (PCS) for 2 years.

In terms of coaching, he was an assistant coach for a Japaneese professional basketball team (IBL) for two years, and served as the assistant boy's basketball coach at Portland Christian High School for three years.

He and his wife, Anne, have been married for 35 years and are the proud parents of four grown children, and have been members at Montavilla Baptist Church for over 30 years.
