ATHLETICS GUIDANCE TEAM

The Athletics Guidance Team (AGT) is a select group of Multnomah alumni and friends who have a special interest in encouraging and supporting the advancement and overall growth of the Athletics programs at Multnomah University. This team was formed to ensure accountability, provide support, and encourage greater involvement from other alumni, current students, and the local community through the investment of time, insight, & resources.
The AGT was formed in the fall of 2013 in anticipation of growth and greater impact in, and through, the Multnomah University Athletics Department.

MEET THE TEAM
Gary Akiyama

Gary Akiyama serves as the Chairman of the AGT and is also the assistant Women's Basketball coach.  Mr. Akiyama was an assistant Men's Basketball coach in 1985 under the tutilage of Hall of Fame coach, Jim Skagen. Gary is the owner of Akiyama Financial Services, LLC and is also a co-owner of a semi-professional basketball team in Vancouver, WA called the Vancouver Volcanoes (IBL).   His résumé also includes working for the Portland Trailblazers for 6 years, being on the board of directors at Portland Christian Schools (PCS) for 13 years and serving as the Director of Development at (PCS) for 2 years.  In terms of coaching, he was an assistant coach for a Japaneese professional basketball team (IBL) for two years, and served as the assistant boy's basketball coach at Portland Christian High School for three years.  He and his wife, Anne, have been married for 31 years and are the proud parents of four grown children, and have been members at Montavilla Baptist Church for over 30 years.
