LEWISTON, Idaho - Multnomah's comeback effort was too little too late after being outscored 45-27 in the first half, ultimately dropping the contest 87-77 on the road against LC State College. The loss drops Multnomah to 9-7 in conference play and seventh place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
Head coach Tayo Gem commended his squad on their ability to compete, despite being up against one of the tougher teams in the conference. "Coming into tonight's game we were confident that we would compete. Even though it took us a while to show that competitiveness, I'm proud of the way my guys fought until the end."
The hosts were offensively efficient tonight, shooting 51.1% from the field compared to Multnomah's 43.1%. The Lions did manage to make the most of LC State's mistakes tonight, scoring 17 points off of LC State's 19 turnovers.Â
Despite the heavy deficit heading into the second half, a 7-0 run led by junior guard
Alileyon Ford helped to pull the visitors within nine with just over two minutes remaining in the contest. The Lions were able to come within eight of the Warriors in the final minutes of the game, with their comeback efforts shot down by the hosts.
Ford led Multnomah's starters with 14 points, a pair of rebounds and steal, while
Braedon Edison added a team-high 16 points off the bench for the Lions. Fellow juniors
Noah McCord and
Lareel Stewart each recorded 11 points on the night, with McCord pulling in a team-high seven rebounds.
