Lions Fall To Wolves On The Road

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - Jersey Huerta's 27-point game wasn't enough for Multnomah today, who suffered an 84-73 road loss to the Walla Walla University Wolves. With the loss, the Lions fell to 6-15 on the year and 4-11 in conference play.

Multnomah took control of the game early in the contest, with Huerta extending the visitor's lead to five with a bucket in the final six minutes of the period. However, missed scoring opportunities by the Lions opened up the door for the Wolves to reclaim the lead, outscoring the Lions 15-12 by the end of the first quarter.

Walla Walla opened up the second quarter with a 5-0 scoring run, as they continued to assert their dominance on the game. The hosts extended their lead to as much as 10 during the period, but a bucket from Huerta in the final minute of the half helped to cut the deficit to just six points heading into the halftime break.

The Wolves came out of the halftime break raring and ready to go, as they managed to keep Multnomah from reclaiming the lead for the duration of the contest. A three-pointer from Jaylo Bello extended the host's lead to 17 in the final five minutes of the contest, which proved to be enough to keep the Lions at bay. A bucket from Kinlee Jeffreys helped to pull Multnomah within 11 of their opponents, but it was too little too late, as they would go on to lose their sixth road game of the season.

Huerta shot 58.8% from the field, 50% from three-point range, and 100% from the free throw line in today's loss, retaining her position as the leading scorer in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Junior forward Leiah Naeata had her best performance of the season for the Lions with 16 points and five rebounds, while freshman guard Ellie Robertson added 10 points, three rebounds, and a team-high three steals.

Multnomah will look to bounce back tomorrow as they close out this weekend's road trip with a 3:00 pm matchup against Lewis-Clark State College.
