PORTLAND, Ore. - The Multnomah Lions opened 2025 with a spirited battle against Lewis-Clark State College but ultimately fell short, losing 70-78 at Lytle Gym. Despite a strong offensive performance by senior guard Reya Lee, the Lions couldn't overcome the Warriors' consistent execution.
Lee led all scorers with 31 points, including an impressive 9-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Her sharp shooting was complemented by Jersey Huerta, who added 22 points, including three triples, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Makayla Torkornoo dominated the glass with 10 rebounds and chipped in three assists.
The Lions' three-point shooting (51.6%) kept them in contention throughout the game. However, turnovers proved costly, as the Warriors capitalized with 30 points off Multnomah's 17 giveaways. Lewis-Clark State also controlled the paint, outscoring the Lions 38-4 in that area.
The Lions trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half but mounted a late surge in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points. Huerta's three-point shooting and Lee's leadership helped trim the deficit to single digits, but the Warriors maintained their composure down the stretch to secure the victory.
Lewis-Clark State was led by Ellie Sander with 16 points and Mataya Green's double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Multnomah (5-8, 3-4 CCC) will look to bounce back in their next game tomorrow against Walla Walla University at 6:00pm.Â
