Lions Snap Losing Streak Against Warriors

PORTLAND, Ore. - Freshman guard Jersey Huerta shot 50.0% from three-point range and 100% from the free throw line to help guide Multnomah (6-13, 4-9) to their first win in their last eight games, securing a 79-72 win over the visiting Corban University Warriors.

"These past few weeks have been hard on the girls, both on and off the court. I couldn't be prouder of how resilient this group is and how they've been able to battle through adversity," shared head coach Reid Takatsuka. "It's been an emotionally-filled time recently, and games like tonight are a constant reminder of what this team can achieve."

Corban (8-11, 6-7) was in full control early in the game, jumping out to an 11-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Multnomah began to turn the tide of the game as the first half wore on, outscoring the visitors 21-14. A three-pointer from Makayla Torkornoo in the last 14 seconds of the half cut the Warrior's lead to just four, with the visitors maintaining a 33-29 lead heading into the halftime break.

Multnomah continued their fine form in the second half thanks to consistent shooting from Huerta and fellow freshman guard Ellie Robertson, outscoring Corban 50-39 to close out the game. The Lions did well to capitalize on Corban's mistakes tonight, scoring 19 points off turnovers compared to Corban's 13.

Huerta recorded a game-high 28 points, along with five assists and two steals. Robertson went 8-for-11 from the field, tallying 17 points on the night. Senior forward Gracie Browning also finished the contest with double-digit scoring, recording a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Alyssa Wyllie led the Warriors tonight with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Tori Younker and Jenna Albrecht each ended the night with 10 points.

The Lions will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow afternoon as they host Bushnell University at 3:00 pm.
