Huerta Scores 30 In Road Loss To Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho - Jersey Huerta's 30-point night was not enough to get Multnomah across the line in tonight's conference matchup against the College of Idaho Yotes, who prevailed with a 79-66 win. Multnomah (5-12, 3-8) shot 100% from the free throw line tonight, with Huerta converting nine while shooting 56.25% from the field.

Anna Mooney set the tone for the hosts and ultimately led them to victory, going 8-for-10 from the field and 6-for-8 from three-point range. Alongside her team-high 23 points, Mooney recorded game-highs of seven rebounds and seven assists on the night.

The Yotes (10-6, 8-3) dominated the game, jumping out to a nine point lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to a free throw from Lainee Houillon. The hosts continued to assert their dominance on the game as the remainder of the first half wore on, with the Lions down by 15 heading into the halftime break.

It was more of the same from COI in the second half, with Houillon helping to extend the lead to 28 with just over a minute to play in the third quarter. Some good shooting from behind the arc from Huerta and junior guard Makalyla Torkornoo helped cut the defecit to 11 with just over three minutes remaining in the contest, but that is the closest that Multnomah would come to chipping away at COI's lead late in the game.

Huerta picked up a pair of rebounds to go with her game-high 30 points, while Torkornoo recorded 13 points, three assists, and a game-high four steals. Senior forward Gracie Browning rounded out the scoring for Multnomah, tallying 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Lions will end the weekend in La Grande, Oregon as they take on Eastern Oregon University at 3:00 pm tomorrow afternoon.
