PORTLAND, Ore. - The upset-minded Multnomah Lions struggled to get anything going tonight against the visiting Oregon Tech Lady Owls, who had a historic night tonight in their 97-58 win over the hosts. OIT shot 65% from the field in one of their most impressive nights in the last four decades, capitalizing on Multnomah's errors who converted just 20 of their 56 shots from the floor.
"These last two games have really humbled us as a team, and we have to figure out how to fight through adversity when things get hard," shared head coach Reid Takatsuka. "We've had to fight through injuries and foul trouble the last few games, but this run of games has to be a wake up call for us going forward."
The game was all Tech early on, who went on a 12-0 run in the first quarter. The Lady Owls extended their lead to as much as 22 in the first half thanks to a basket from Kendall Fealey with just over four minutes remaining in the period. The Lions were able to cut OIT's lead to 19, trailing 52-33 heading into the halftime break.
The visitors picked up right where they left off in the first half, scoring the first 11 points of the second half in dominant fashion. A basket from freshman guard
Ellie Robertson in the final seconds of the third quarter cut Tech's lead to 26, but the Lady Owls would go on to add a 20-6 run in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 40 in the final three minutes of the game.
Robertson led the Lions (5-11, 3-7) on the night with 15 points, two rebounds and four steals. Fellow guards
Makayla Torkornoo and
Jersey Huerta each tallied 14 points and combined for seven rebounds and six assists, while senior forward
Gracie Browning recorded a team-high eight assists on the night.
The Lions will hit the road next weekend as they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to take on the College of Idaho.
