Lions Stumble Against Raiders

PORTLAND, Ore. - Makayla Torkornoo's game-high 23-point night was not enough to propel Multnomah past the visiting Southern Oregon University Raiders, who cruised to a 95-55 victory while remaining undefeated on the year. Four Raiders ended the night with double-digit scoring, with the visitors shooting 58.9% from the field, while the Lions only converted 15 of their 45 shots from the floor.

SOU jumped out to an 11-point lead early in the first quarter, with Multnomah (5-10, 3-6 CCC) pulling with seven with just over three minutes left to play in the period thanks to a three-pointer from Torkornoo. The Raiders would go on to reestablish their 11-point lead in the final 20 seconds of the quarter thanks to a made free throw from Eliza Digiulio. The second quarter saw more of the same from the visitors, with Morgan Baird and Bridgette McIntyre leading the way offensively for SOU, who ended the first half with a 14-point advantage over the Lions.

The Raiders started the second half just as they ended the first, steamrolling their way past Multnomah to a 32-point lead by the end of the third quarter off a three-pointer from Mallory Williams. The visitors put on a defensive masterclass all night, forcing the Lions into countless turnovers throughout the contest. SOU capped off their 40-point win with a made free throw from Keeley Wright in the final seconds of the game, improving to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Torkornoo recorded five rebounds and two assists alongside her game-high 23 points, while freshman guard Ellie Robertson was a bright spark off the bench for the Lions with 13 points and four rebounds. Jersey Huerta and Gracie Browning each tallied nine points, while the pair combined for seven rebounds and five assists on the night.

The Lions welcome the Oregon Tech Owls to Lytle Gym tomorrow for an afternoon matchup before hitting the road next weekend to take on College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University.
