PORTLAND, Ore. - Two goals off set pieces and one off of a counter attack gave Multnomah the advantage over their hosts, Lewis & Clark College, as they would go on to win 3-1 against the Pioneers in their penultimate preseason test before the start of the conference season.
"I'm proud of how we bounced back after our last result," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker following this afternoon's result. "We
Multnomah (2-2-1, 0-0 CCC) managed to walk away with the win today, despite the fact that Lewis & Clark (0-1-1) held a 20-11 edge in total shots, with the hosts recording six corners to Multnomah's two.
The Lions got things underway early in the game, scoring their first of the afternoon just six minutes into the contest after defender
Ava Martins got on the end of a corner from
Annika Rahf. Rahf would get a goal of her own just over three minutes later, after her free kick from nearly 30 yards away soared past the outstretched hands of the Pioneers' goalkeeper.
Lewis & Clark tried to change the tide of the game, chipping into Multnomah's lead with a goal of their own in the 58th minute through Celeste Schreifels. The Lions made sure to shut down any further efforts from the Pioneers with their third goal of the night thanks to
Paige Nguyen, who scored her second goal of the season after she got on the end of a through ball from
Sydney Holmes to cap off an excellent counter attack by Multnomah. Despite conceding the one goal, senior goalkeeper
Jennifer Alvillar came up big again for the Lions, recording nine impressive saves.
Up next for Multnomah is a trip to Tacoma, Washington on Saturday, September 14th to take on Pacific Lutheran University, before opening up their conference season against Southern Oregon University and Oregon Tech.
