Lions Narrowly Lose in First Home Game of the Season

PORTLAND, Ore. - One moment can define an entire game, which is exactly what happened during tonight's contest, as the Lions of Multnomah took on the Pioneers of Pacific Union College. Despite dominating the offensive side of the game, Multnomah was unable to walk away with a win, falling 1-0 in their first home game of the season.

"We created a lot of great chances going forward, but we failed to execute when we had the opportunity to," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker. "Tonight was another good test to see what we still need to work on before conference starts, but we're definitely making steps in the right direction."

Multnomah (1-2-1, 0-0 CCC) started tonight's contest strongly, peppering Pacific Union's goal with numerous shots early in the first half. However, it would be the Pioneers who would strike first, after a penalty kick was awarded in the 27th minute following a foul from a Multnomah defender. The goal, scored by Ryann Van Horn, proved to be the game winner, despite Multnomah's 12 total shots, eight of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Jennifer Alvillar had another strong outing in net for the Lions, recording four saves while keeping Multnomah's backline organized for the full 90 minutes.

"I think we were unlucky tonight," said midfielder Megan Castricum when asked for her thoughts following tonight's game. "We had loads of chances that we didn't capitalize on, but we'll learn from tonight's mistakes and we're already looking ahead to Sunday's game."

Next up for the Lions is a trip just up the road against Lewis & Clark College on Sunday at 3:00 pm, before rounding out their preseason schedule with a trip to Tacoma, Washington to take on Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, September 14th at 5:00 pm.
