Lions Win Big In First Home Contest of the Season

PORTLAND, Ore. - After losing their first two games of the season, tonight's result was exactly what Multnomah needed, as they earned a massive 5-0 win against the visiting Pioneers of Pacific Union College.

"I'm proud of the guys and how they performed tonight. The last few results haven't gone our way, but tonight we stayed true to our style of play and walked away with a convincing win," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker when asked for his thoughts following tonight's game. "We don't want to lose this momentum - we've got a big first weekend of the conference season coming up in just a few weeks, and every minute we have to get better matters."

Multnomah (1-1, 0-0 CCC) dominated the contest, tallying 24 shots, 8 of which were on target, but they weren't able to make the breakthrough until late in the first half. Forward Paul Einero scored for the Lions in the 31st minute, with Axcele Biteghe grabbing the assist. Einero's goal was the only goal in the first half, but Multnomah was far from done with their Californian opposition.

Biteghe jumped in on the fun for the Lions early in the second half, scoring his first goal of the season in the 47th minute. Pacific Union proved to make things difficult for Multnomah as the second half wore on, but their efforts weren't enough to keep the Lions from furthering their advantage. Einero scored his second of the night after being awarded a penalty kick in the 75th minute, before he completed his first hat trick of his Multnomah career with a goal just one minute later, thanks to an assist from Freshman winger Musa Jallow. The fifth and final goal of the night was scored by forward Jaren Bowler, who utilized his pace to score his first goal of the season in the 88th minute. Junior transfer Luis Mendoza recorded his first clean sheet for the Lions tonight in what was also his first ever start, after not being heavily tested by Pacific Union College.

Up next for the Lions is a matchup against Lewis & Clark College on Friday at 7:30 pm, before heading up to Tacoma, Washington to round out their preseason schedule against the University of Puget Sound on Thursday, September 12th at 4:00 pm.
