EUGENE, Ore. - Despite an early ejection and having to fight back from an 11-point margin heading into the halftime interval, Multnomah was able to fight their way back to improve to 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a 74-70 win on the road against Bushnell University.
"It's unfortunate that we faced some adversity early in the game with one of our key players being ejected, but what I love most about this team is that we have a 'next man up' mentality, and our motivation to win the game did not stop," shared head coach Tayo Gem when asked for his post-game analysis. "We have several things that we must clean up in order for us to reach our full potential but today 'we got better at being us.' We will enjoy this win tonight but then it's right into the Corban game."
Bushnell controlled the early stages of the game, jumping out to as much as a 12-point lead in the first half. Multnomah finally found their groove late in the second half, thanks to
Keilan Torkornoo and
Darius Mason-Robertson's defensive efforts. Good free throw attempts from Multnomah helped propel the Lions to victory, with
Marje Windfield securing the win with a free throw in the last 10 seconds of the game.
Sophomore forward Torkornoo helped power the Lions to victory with a double-double on the night, tallying a team-high 22 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Junior forward Mason-Robertson came up big defensively all night for Multnomah, matching Torkornoo's rebound tally with 15 of his own. Additionally, Windfield continued his fine form with another impressive outing, recording 21 points, four rebounds, four steals, and a game-high five assists.
The Lions will look to keep their momentum going as they wrap up the weekend on the road against Corban University tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
