KIRKLAND, Wash. - In a game marked by the first appearances of the season for sophomore guard
Noah Madsen and senior guard
Kadeem Nelson, Multnomah aggressively powered their way to a 78-70 victory on the road against Northwest University, improving to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
"Although we've still got several things we need to continue to improve on, it was special to finally have all 12 of our players available - everyone contributed to a solid road win," shared head coach Tayo Gem. "I'm proud of this group for finally being aggressive at the rim, as we shot 36 FT's. It's huge to get a conference win on the road and now we have to quickly turn our focus to Evergreen, who I know will be ready for us tomorrow!"
The Lions took control of the game early in the first half, jumping out to a 10-point lead thanks to a good tip-in from
Noah McCord with just over 13 minutes of play remaining in the half. Multnomah continued the half just as they'd started it, ending the period with a 14-point lead thanks to a layup from Nelson with just over a minute left to play.
The hosts came out looking like a different team in the second half, chipping away at Multnomah's lead to just a one-point advantage with just over 15 minutes left to go in the game. The Lions never conceded the lead, and regained control of the game as the half wore on. A pair of good free throws from Nelson in the dying seconds of the game was enough to close out the game for Multnomah, who bounced back in excellent fashion following their loss to Corban almost two weeks ago.
Sophomore forward
Keilan Torkornoo led the way for the Lions tonight, securing yet another double-double with a game-high 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. McCord and Nelson each ended the night in double-digit scoring, scoring 14 points and 13 points respectively. Madsen picked up five points and a pair of steals in his first appearance as a Lion, while
Braedon Edison and
Marje Windfield combined for 12 points and six rebounds to round out the scoring for Multnomah.
Multnomah is back in action later today as they look to go 2-0 on the weekend against The Evergreen State College.
