OLYMPIA, Wash. - Multnomah went 2-0 on the weekend following tonight's dominant 89-63 win on the road against The Evergreen State College. With the win, the Lions improve to 8-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference play as they currently sit in third place in the
Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
"This is exactly the type of win we needed to show ourselves that we can close out games when we have control of them," shared head coach Tayo Gem. "Coach Curry and I have been praising them for their defense and encouraged them that this is the type of game where you want to reward yourself on offense from all the hard work that you have done on defense. Finishing with an 8-2 record heading into winter break feels great and is well deserved. However, we have so much more room for growth and continued motivation to simply 'get better at being us."
It took just under two minutes for Multnomah to break the deadlock in tonight's contest, which saw them maintain the lead throughout the remainder of the game. Their biggest advantage in the first half came with just over six minutes left to play in the period when a good layup from sophomore guard
Marje Windfield extended their lead to 15 points over the Geoducks. A three-pointer from junior guard
Braedon Edison with nine seconds left to play gave the Lions a 37-26 lead heading into the halftime break.
Evergreen did what they could to keep Multnomah's lead to less than 10 during the early stages of the second half, but a pair of three-pointers from Windfield around halfway through the period was enough to propel the Lions past the hosts, as the visitors continued to extend their lead as the half wore on. A layup from freshman guard
Aidan Moore in the final minute of play gave Multnomah their biggest lead of the contest, before ultimately securing a 26-point win over The Evergreen State College.
Windfield led the Lions tonight with a game-high 20 points, with an additional three rebounds and a pair of assists. Junior guard
Alileyon Ford had an impressive night off the bench for Multnomah, scoring 17 points after going 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range, and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Noah McCord and
Darius Mason-Robertson each pulled in nine assists, while sophomore forward
Keilan Torkornoo rounded out the scoring for the Lions with 13 points.
Multnomah will close out 2024 with their first home game of the conference season, as they host cross-town rivals Warner Pacific University on Monday, December 30th.
