Multnomah Victorious Against Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. - Multnomah extended their winning streak to three-in-a-row and moved to 1-0 in conference play with their dominating 73-51 win over cross-town rivals, Warner Pacific University last night.

"We played really well defensively tonight - we were able to put them [Warner] into uncomfortable positions when they had the ball, and we made sure to capitalize on their mistakes," shared head coach Reid Takatsuka. "This win feels especially sweet considering they beat us both times last season, so we knew we had a job to get done tonight. I'm proud of how the girls performed - it was a great team performance!"

The first half was a tightly-contested matchup between the local rivals, with Multnomah maintaining just a six-point lead heading into the halftime interval. The third quarter was where the Lions began to assert their dominance on the game, pulling ahead by as much as 14 points thanks to some fine shooting from Gracie Browning, Makayla Torkornoo, Ellie Robertson, and Teyah Clark.

Multnomah continued to pull away as the game wore on, extending their lead to as much as 25 points during the latter stages of the fourth quarter. Defense was the name of the game for the Lions, as they forced the Knights into multiple turnovers and misplaced scoring opportunities throughout the second half of the game.

Senior forward Browning capped off the impressive win for Multnomah with her first double-double of the season, tallying a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Bountiful, Utah native was immense on defense for the Lions, recording an additional block and two steals on the night. Browning, along with junior guard Torkornoo, helped lead Multnomah to shoot 44.1% from the field. Torkornoo ended the night with 14 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high seven assists. Robertson and Jersey Huerta each tallied 13 points on the night, with Huerta dishing out three assists to her name while Robertson picked up an additional eight rebounds.

The Lions have the rest of the week off as they prepare to take on Bushnell and Corban on the road next weekend.
