Lions Unable to Overcome Bruins

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Multnomah women's basketball team dropped to 0-4 on the year following a 55-64 loss on Saturday afternoon against the George Fox University Bruins. The Lions shot 37.3% from the field, with Jersey Huerta leading the pack with 15 points.

Huerta, a freshman guard from Kent, Washington, converted five of her 13 shots from the field, and recorded an additional three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Freshman guard Teyah Clark and senior forward Gracie Browning also ended the night with double-digit scoring, finishing with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Freshman guard Ellie Robertson, who has been at the forefront of the Lions attack all season, ended the night with a team-high five assists.

"Of course no one wants to have this many consecutive losses this early in the season, but I can see how we are getting better as a group through each of these past five games," shared head coach Reid Takatsuka. "Our freshmen have stepped up in a big way throughout these past few games, and I'm hoping we can get into our groove before our first conference game against Warner."

George Fox dominated the game offensively, shooting 44.2% from the field, 42.9% from behind the arc, and 80.0% from the free throw line. The Bruins were led by senior guard Alyssa Wells, who ended the night with a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Lions will be back in action with two away games this week, as they take on Lewis & Clark College on Thursday at 8:00 pm, before ending the week at Willamette University on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
