PORTLAND, Ore. - Multnomah (3-5-1, 1-3-1 CCC) earned a hard-fought point against the visiting Northwest University Eagles (2-5-2, 0-2-2 CCC) today, as both squads settled for a 1-1 draw in what was a heated affair. Northwest held a 13-8 edge in terms of total shots over the Lions, while
Johnny Hernandez had another impressive outing in goal for Multnomah, recording eight saves by the time the final whistle blew.Â
"I hope this result doesn't come back to hurt us down the road," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker following today's tie. "We have to fight for every point - we started the game sharply, but we weren't as disciplined as we should have been during the later stages of the game."
The first half saw both teams take turns chipping away at each other, but neither were able to break the deadlock. It wasn't until 40 seconds into the second half where Multnomah was ultimately able to make the breakthrough, after
Tomas Espinoza converted a penalty kick after
Ethan Zavala had been brought down by a Northwest defender.Â
The Lions were only able to maintain their lead for about 20 minutes, as Northwest leveled things up in the 67th minute thanks to a goal from Caleb Corpuz. The last 15-20 minutes were a back-and-forth battle, with each team nearly taking the lead. The game ultimately ended in a draw, with both teams having to split the points from today's contest.
Multnomah is back in action at home tomorrow as they take on The Evergreen State College at 2:30 pm.
