PORTLAND, Ore. - Multnomah improved to 2-3-1 in conference play with a statement win today, as they overcame the traveling Evergreen State College Geoducks by a scoreline of 3-0. "We started slowly, and we were off a lot positionally in the early stages of the game, but we finally found our feet, and I'm proud of how we put the game away today," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker. "We've got some of the most crucial games of the season coming up in the next few weeks, so we have to fix these little errors now so they don't happen in the future."
Today's game was a heated one, with nine yellow cards being brandished between the two teams by the time the final whistle blew. There were a total of 38 fouls called in today's contest, with Evergreen being penalized 21 times.
Jonathan Gaspar made the breakthrough for the Lions in the 52nd minute, as his strike from outside the box pinged in off the post and past Evergreen's goalkeeper, so seemed to miss the ball as it was in flight. Forward
Paul Einero jumped in on the action next, as he converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute, scoring his seventh goal of the season. Senior
Axcele Biteghe sealed the deal for the Lions just two minutes later, after he got on the end of a cross from
Tomas Espinoza and slotted his shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
The Lions are back in action next Friday at 2:30 pm, as they take on local cross-town rivals Warner Pacific University.
