PORTLAND, Ore. - Multnomah (6-5-2, 4-3-2 CCC) extended their unbeaten run to six games in a thrilling win over the visiting Bushnell University Beacons (6-5-3, 2-5-2 CCC). Bushnell managed to edge the Lions 17-to-14 in total shots, but the Lions did well to convert the chances they did have while holding the visitors back.
"I'm proud of the way we scored our goals today - this is exactly how we train to play," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker. "While I'm glad we got the result, we needed to manage the game better. Some of our decision making in our own defensive third ended up hurting us, and we can't allow those same mistakes to happen in our last three games."
Multnomah got things going early in the game, as senior forward
Paul Einero was able to get on the end of a throw-in from
Enrique Munoz and place his shot into the bottom right corner of Bushnell's goal. Einero would go on to double Multnomah's lead and grab his second brace in as many days in the 36th minute, after muscling his way past a Bushnell defender and chipping his shot over the oncoming goalkeeper, thanks to an assist from
Aghiles Lamara.Â
The Beacons would pull a goal back in the 43rd minute thanks to Francisco Cayolla, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Lions heading into the halftime interval.
Out of the break, Multnomah quickly picked up where they left off, as
Nicolas Perdomo-Pinzon finished off a masterfully executed counter-attack, getting on the end of first-time cross from Lamara and heading his shot into the back of the net in the 48th minute. It took just 10 minutes for Bushnell to find a response, as Caleb Premo grabbed Bushnell's second goal of the day thanks to an assist from Brady Housley.
In the 65th minute,
Isael Lopez scored what would end up being the game-winner from Multnomah, as his perfectly placed freekick soared into the top left corner of the goal. Bushnell would score a third just five minutes later through Ian Palma, but the Lions were able to see out the game and record their fourth win in their last six games.
With his brace, Einero now leads the conference with 12 goals on the year. Additionally, Lamara is tied for first place in assists on the year with seven.
The Lions hit the road next weekend to take on Walla Walla University and Rocky Mountain College, before finishing the conference season at Eastern Oregon and the College of Idaho.
