PORTLAND, Ore. - Late game heroics from Multnomah (5-5-2, 3-3-2 CCC) helped them extend their unbeaten streak to five games, as they fought their way to a 2-2 draw against Corban University (4-6-3, 3-2-3 CCC). The Lions led the game offensively, edging the Warriors 24-to-12 in total shots and 10-5 in shots on target.
"We had a chance to put the game away late in the match, but we have to hope these missed opportunities don't come back to hurt us as the season progresses," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker. "I'm proud of the boys and how they persevered today. They never let their heads drop, despite going down by two goals."
This afternoon's match may have been one of the most physical ones of the season, as Multnomah committed 25 fouls to Corbans' 16, with the Warriors firing off eight corners to the Lions three. Six yellow cards were dealt in the match including three to Corban.
As a balanced first half was ready to come to a close, Corban's Alexander Guindy found the breakthrough to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime interval. Diego Gonzalez-Ruiz was awarded the assist on Guindy's goal.
Out of the halftime break, Corban maintained their pressure and quickly doubled their advantage with a goal in the 47th minute through Santiago Castano. Despite the two-goal deficit, Multnomah managed to pull their way back into the match as
Paul Einero danced his way around the Corban goalkeeper and easily put his shot into the back of the net. Einero's goal came in the 73rd minute after getting on the end of a well-time through ball from
Isael Lopez.
The Lions kept up the pressure, which led to Einero's second goal of the game in the 85th minute, after he was able to get on the end of a cross from
Axcele Biteghe. The Lions were then awarded a penalty kick just one minute later, but Biteghe was unable to convert the shot, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
The Lions will host Bushnell University tomorrow at 2:30 pm, before hitting the road to take on Walla Walla University and Rocky Mountain College next weekend.
