PORTLAND, Ore. - Despite leading the game offensively, Multnomah was unable to overcome their cross-town rivals in Warner Pacific University, as they narrowly fell 2-1 yesterday afternoon. The Lions (5-5-3, 3-3-1 CCC) held an 18-13 advantage in shots over the Knights (4-6-2, 2-4-1 CCC), while managing to put eight shots on target to Warner's seven.Â
"We weren't at our best today," shared Head Coach Dalon Parker following the defeat. "We needed to be more clinical with our attacking chances, but our mindset has already shifted to next weekend."
Warner first broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with a goal from Kiya Gramps, as she got on the end of a corner kick from Kylar Nguyen, placing her shot into the left side of the goal. Both teams would continue to exchange blows for the duration of the game, but it wasn't until the later stages of the second half that the Knights would double their advantage with a goal from Payton Ashley in the 77th minute. The Lions managed to pull one back in the 86th minute thanks to senior
Yesenia Lawson, assisted by freshman
Talize Anderson, but it was too little too late for Multnomah.Â
The Lions are back at home next weekend as they look to right the ship against Corban University and Bushnell University.
