The Multnomah Lions volleyball team hit the road for the final time in conference play, with a trip to Walla Walla University on Friday, October 27th, and to Lewis-Clark State on Saturday, October 28th.
Both Walla Walla and the Lions looked to snap losing streaks, and it was Multnomah who took an early lead by closing out a tight first set. The Wolves rallied to win the next two sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match, but the Lions closed out sets 4 and 5 with convincing margins of victory. Gabrielle Browning led all hitters with 23 kills for Walla Walla, and also added 5 blocks. Danae Stokes led the Lions with 15, with Lauren Porter contributing 40 digs, and Emilina Merafuentes adding 6 blocks to aid the Lions victory.
The Lions looked to avenge a 5-set loss against the Warriors of Lewis-Clark State on Saturday and appeared to have the measure of the Warriors in the early goings of each set. The strong serving of Grecia Ung Enriquez (6 aces) and Kenzie Dean (3 aces) provided a needed spark for the Warriors to rally from behind in each set. Despite strong play at the net from Jocelynn Porter (8 kills, 2 blocks) and Emilina Merafuentes (5 blocks), the Warriors finished the evening with a 3-0 victory.
