KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Multnomah University Lions headed to Northwest University to play a pair of non-conference games against the Eagles. After their best game of the season, the Lions narrowly missed the victory and lost by 9 to Northwest, with a final score of 85-76.
The Lions found their rhythm right away and jumped to a 15 point lead in six and a half minutes. At the end of the first quarter, Multnomah had the advantage by 10, 29-19.
Responding with a rhythm of their own, the Eagles took the second quarter – doubling the Lions 15 points with 30 of their own. This gave Northwest the lead going into halftime by 5, 49-44.
The third quarter saw the teams playing a steady game, going point-for-point until the end when the Eagles pulled ahead by 9 to give them the lead they needed to take the win. Both teams tallied 15 points in the fourth quarter after the teams made every possession count.
Inside the stats the two teams are similar on many fronts – both making 30 field goals and with fairly even shooting percentages. The Lions field goal percentage was 50%, and 3 point percentage was 40.7%. The Eagles shot 45.5% on the floor with a 3 point percentage of 52%. Northwest was able to take the game after going 12-15 from the charity stripe, and making 13 3's to Multnomah's 11.
With three Lions in double digits, the team had their best offensive showing yet.
Sequoia Wheeler led the team offensively with 22 points to her name, after going 8-12 with 4 3's on the night.
Maddie Hill finished with 20 points and 4 3's on the night as well.
Alaygza Portis rounded out the double digit crew with 18 points, and shared the rebound high of half a dozen with
Clare Faber.
The team will face the Eagles again on Saturday, March 7
th, with a 12:45pm tip-off before potentially hosting a couple games of their own before conference play begins.
