#13 Warriors Defeat Lions

LEWISTON, Ida. – Taking on the #13 Warriors of Corban University, the Multnomah University Lions played their third double-header conference game day. The Warriors took the wins in both matches in three straight sets.

Game 1
Corban stepped on the court ready to play, hitting an impressive .522 in the first set. The Lions unforced errors held them back from catching up to the Warriors, and lost set one 25-12. Maintaining their momentum, the Warriors started set two with a 5 point run. Despite the tough start, the Multnomah offense had five kills in a row from four different players to tighten the difference to just 1 point, 7-6. Corban responded with a few long runs to earn the win 25-12 again.

The Lions put up a new fight in the third set, keeping the pace with the Warriors and tying up the score at 20's despite being down by as much as 6 points earlier in the set. Corban pulled away at the end with a 5-2 run to win 25-22.

Leading the Lion's offense in the match was Danae Stokes who tallied 11 kills. Alyssa Mehalovich held down the backrow with 15 digs.

Game 2
Similar to the first match, the Warriors took the first two sets from the Lions with ease but had to hold their own in the third.

Corban took set one 25-14, and set two 25-7 after the Lions offense struggled to find its rhythm. Set three saw the teams trading short runs and finding themselves tied up at 20-20 just like the first match. The Warriors stayed consistent and finished the set with a four point win, 25-21.

The offense was more evenly spread for the Lions in their second match against the Warriors. Kamaile Labanon led the team with 7 kills, followed by Jocelynn Porter with 6 and Danae Stokes with 5. Alyssa Mehalovich led the team defensively with 12.

"Being one of our toughest competitors in the conference, Corban played like we thought. They didn't give us any easy opportunities," said Coach Colton Naill. "It took some time to find the rhythm for our team but the third set again showed what this team is capable of. Our goal going forward is to replicate this kind of play for an entire match instead of just a single set."

The Lions will face more Warriors tomorrow as they take on the host team, LC State, on March 7th with 11am and 2pm game times.
