LEWISTON, Ida. – Playing in their last day in the conference pod, the Lions took back-to-back losses from the host school LC State.
Game 1
Playing true to character, the Lions had a slow start but continued to improve with each set. A couple five point runs in the first set put the Warriors ahead early on to carry them to the 25-12 win. Back-to-back kills from
Danae Stokes got the Lions started stronger in set two, but LC State responded with a 4-point run to go up 8-4. Strong serving from the Warriors kept the Lions out of system and held them to 14 points in the second set.
Limiting unforced errors and having better setter-hitter connection, the third set looked like a new team for Multnomah. Stringing together runs of their own and playing without fear, the Lions tested the Warriors defense. LC State held on and finished the third and final set of the match with a 7-point win, 25-18.
On the offensive front,
Kamaile Labanon led the team with 10 kills.
Rachel Bailey had all but 2 of the 20 assists. Labanon and Bailey both had the team high for digs with 8 a piece.
Game 2
The second match against the Warriors started out with the best set the Lions have played this season. The teams were battling point-for-point, and each one was hard fought. The Warriors took a 4 point advantage after a couple errors from Multnomah, with a score of 10-6. Not letting the run get them down, the Lions responded with a run of their own, going up 15-11. After long rallies continued to take place, the Lions still had the lead at 21-17. With the pressure on, the Warriors stayed strong and pushed through for a 7-point run to get them to set point, 24-21. Despite the momentum building kills and well timed aces, the Lions were unable to take the win and lost by 3.
Even though they won the first set, LC State came into set two with vengeance. They took the lead from the get to and won set two by 10. Set three again saw the Warriors taking an early lead, but that did not stop the Lions from playing their hearts out. The Warriors took the final set of the day by 6, 25-19.
Kamaile Labanon earned a double-double after tallying 12 kills and digging up 10.
Danae Stokes was right behind her with 8 kills and 10 digs as well.
Alyssa Mehalovich played phenomenal defense and barely let anything by her, finishing with 20 digs on the match.
"The second match was an outstanding performance from our team – best we've played this year by far," said Coach
Colton Naill. "Really excited for the next two weeks and to have a home weekend up next – a lot to look forward to with this team."
The Lions will now look forward to and prepare for their only home weekend of the season, coming up on March 19
th and 20
th as they host Warner Pacific University.
