Connell, WA – Jumping into their first season game with short notice, the Lions made their way to Connell, Washington to face the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon University. The Mountaineers took the win with a final score of 84-44.
Eastern gained a lead in the first quarter and did not look back. The Mountaineers were up by 10, with a score of 16-6. The second quarter saw the teams battling it out evenly, with Multnomah scoring 20 and Eastern scoring 21.
Heading into the half the Lions were down by 11 with a score of 37-26.
The Mountaineers came out with a new fire in the second half, and more than tripled their lead to seal the victory by 40.
Leading the team offensively was
Alaygza Portis, who tallied 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Maddie Hill and
Katie Skramstad added with 8 and 7 points, respectively.
Despite the tough loss, the Lions were given a new perspective on the sport and the excitement of getting to compete. The team will continue to do their best with the hand their dealt and hope to compete again soon.
The two teams will play again on Saturday, February 20
th at 2:00pm before they both try to plan for their next game.
