CALDWELL Ida. – Multnomah University Men's Basketball made their way from one corner of Idaho to another to play the #23 Yotes of College of Idaho. The Lions lost by 8 with a final score of 93-85 in favor of the home team.
College of Idaho was quick to take the lead, sealing an advantage of 10 points in the first five minutes. The teams continued to battle through the half, and the Yotes continued to add to their lead. At the end of the half, College of Idaho had the upper hand with a score of 50-34.
Kicking off the second half with back-to-back 3's from
Zach Richardson, the Lions had a new energy. Slowly but surely they chipped away at the 16 point deficit, and shortened the difference to 3 with 8:30 left to play.
The Yotes had a pair of runs and were ahead by 7 two separate times before Multnomah tied it up with just over two minutes remaining, 85-85. However, this would be the last points on the board for the Loins, as College of Idaho got a couple shots in the paint to put them up by 4 then made all 4 of their free throws to seal the win by 8.
Leading all scorers was
Zach Richardson, who finished the night with 29 points after making 11-of-14 field goals. Barely missing an offensive double-double was
Forrest Smith who tallied 23 points and 9 assists.
Andrew Classen led the team in rebounds with 7, and scored 15.
The Lions efforts in tonight's game were nothing short of impressive after traveling, playing their third night in a row on their opening week, and jumping into season with minimal practice. The team will gear up for their final game of the stretch on February 13
th as they face the Yotes again with a 7:00pm (6:00pm PST) tip-off.
