Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors Top Lions on Senior Night

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Multnomah University men's basketball team (14-14, 7-11 CCC) faced off against Corban (12-16, 6-12 CCC) on Saturday night at Jim Skagen Court on Senior night, but the Warriors got the best of the Lions in a 90-80 victory.

The Warriors distributed the ball well, dishing out 18 assists, compared to the 11 assists for MU.

Justin Martin led the Lions with 43 points and 4 assists, while Trey Fountain scored 16 points and dished out 4 assists as well.

Tyler Wadleigh and Jason Smarr led the way for the Warriors, scoring 23 points each, while AJ Hodges added 11.

Head Coach Curt bickley addressed the loss, "The effort was there, we just stopped scoring when the score was tied 80-80. Corban's size wore us down, and they did a great job of pounding the ball into the post. They are a well coached team."

The Lions will be on the road next weekend at Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University with tip-off being at 7:30 both days.

The Lions have four seniors on their team: Justin Martin, Stepan Zavydovskyy, Trey Fountain, and Luke Thomas.

Justin Martin has earned the praise of Coach Bickley over his two seasons at MU, "Justin is the hardest working player that I have ever coached in my 27 years of coaching. The results have been fabulous. He is the perfect player for the style of basketball we play at MU. His fame is now nationwide, but he has stayed grounded through it all. He is a big fan of crediting his teammates for all of their help, and he has bought into our culture. It has been the privilage of a lifetime to coach a player that combines the toughness, competativeness, and skill that pushes the extremes of accomplishment on a basketball court. Well done Justin."

Trey Fountain has scored 464 points and dished out 194 assists in his career as a Lion. Coach Bickley said, "I love coaching Trey. He hit the game winning shots against Montanna Tech and West Coast Baptist that gave us two roads wins. I have no doubt that Trey will be successful after graduation"

Stepan Zavydovskyy has led the Cascade Conference in blocks the past two seasons, and finished top 5 in the nation both years as well. Head Coach Curt Bickley says, "Steph is a very hard worker and a tremendous teammate. He takes care of business on and off the floor and defines our culture of "Team Only". I am proud to have coached Steph these last two years. He has been outstanding."

Luke Thomas is a fifth year senior who has developed into a team leader. Coach Bickley comments, "Luke has been a leader through the ups and downs and has developed a keen insight for what works and what doesn't. I am proud of Luke for finishing well."
